Starting fresh in Surrey?
You belong here. We can help.

A curated guide to settlement services, language programs, employment support, and community connections for newcomers, refugees, and families across the Lower Mainland.

Key pathways

Three places to start your journey

Every newcomer's path is different. Choose the area that matters most to you right now — each card links directly to relevant services.

First steps

What to do in your first 30 days

Arriving in a new country can feel overwhelming. These four steps are a simple roadmap most newcomers follow — and GSOS can walk with you through each one.

Need a warm introduction to any of these services? Our team can book appointments, arrange interpreters, and accompany you to your first visit.

1

Get your documents in order

Gather your PR card, work permit, study permit, or IMM forms. Most settlement agencies need these for intake. If documents are missing, they can guide you on next steps.

2

Connect with a settlement worker

Book an intake with ISSofBC, Options Community Services, or DIVERSEcity. A settlement worker can map out your personalized action plan and refer you to housing, employment, and health services.

3

Enrol in language classes

LINC and conversation circles fill up fast. Register early through ISSofBC, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., or Surrey Libraries. Strong language skills open doors to better jobs and deeper community connection.

4

Explore employment and community programs

Visit MOSAIC, PICS, or S.U.C.C.E.S.S. for job counselling, skills training, and mentorship. Join community gatherings through DIVERSEcity or Umoja to build your network and sense of belonging.
