Accessibility Statement
Last updated: June 26, 2026
Effective date: June 26, 2026
Good Samaritan Outreach Society ("GSOS") is committed to ensuring that gsosconnect.org (the "Site"), our programs, and our physical spaces are accessible to people of all abilities, backgrounds, and languages. Accessibility is part of how we live out our mission of serving with love and building hope.
1. Our commitment
We aim to meet or exceed the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). We also work to align with the Accessible Canada Act and the Accessible British Columbia Act, recognizing that accessibility is an ongoing process, not a one-time project.
2. Measures we take on the Site
- Semantic HTML and ARIA labels so assistive technologies (screen readers, voice control, switch devices) can navigate the Site;
- Keyboard-navigable menus, forms, dropdowns, and interactive components, with visible focus states;
- Colour contrast that meets WCAG AA for body text, and scalable typography that respects browser font-size settings;
- Descriptive link and button text — avoiding "click here" — and alternative text on meaningful images;
- Captions or transcripts for video content where available;
- Responsive layouts that work on mobile, tablet, and desktop, and reflow at 400% zoom; and
- Skip-to-content patterns and a clear, consistent navigation structure.
3. Known limitations
Despite our efforts, some content may not yet be fully accessible. Known areas we are actively improving include:
- Older photographs and event posters that do not yet have detailed alt text;
- PDF documents that may not be fully tagged for screen readers;
- Embedded third-party content (such as maps or social media) whose accessibility we do not control directly.
If you encounter one of these or any other barrier, please tell us — we will provide the information in an alternative format and work to fix the underlying issue.
4. In-person services
Our Surrey office strives to be welcoming and accessible. If you need accommodations — language interpretation, mobility assistance, large-print or plain-language materials, or a support person — please let us know in advance and we will do our best to help.
5. Languages
We serve a richly multicultural community. While most of our written content is in English, we offer in-person support in multiple languages. Please contact us to arrange interpretation or translated materials.
6. Assistive technology compatibility
The Site is designed to be compatible with current versions of major screen readers (NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, TalkBack) and the latest two versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). Older browsers or assistive technologies may have a degraded experience.
7. Ongoing improvements
- Periodic accessibility reviews of new and existing pages;
- Training for staff and volunteers on inclusive content and design;
- Procurement preferences for tools and platforms that meet accessibility standards.
8. Feedback and requests
Your feedback helps us improve. If you encounter an accessibility barrier on the Site or in our services — or if you need information in an alternative format such as large print, plain language, or audio — please contact us. We aim to respond to accessibility-related requests within 5 business days.
